Binding Solutions Limited Appoints Peter Warren as Head of Iron Making Technology

London: Binding Solutions Limited (“BSL” or the “Company”) the UK-based low-carbon metals processing technology company is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Warren as Head of Iron Making Technology.

Peter is a highly experienced technology manager and expert in blast furnace processes. Prior to joining BSL, he was most recently Development Metallurgist, Blast Furnaces at British Steel Scunthorpe, researching CO2 reduction options for blast furnaces and working with universities and technology institutes on new methods to recover materials from steelmaking waste.

Peter was also Research Group Manager at the Materials Processing Institute (“MPI”), a globally recognised centre for the innovation, development and commercialisation of technology for advanced materials, industrial decarbonisation and the circular economy.  At the MPI he led projects on the optimisation of coal injection and was responsible for managing a team of research staff to deliver projects in the steelmaking industry, and associated sectors.

Peter Warren said:

“I’m excited to join Binding Solutions to contribute to the further development of the company’s highly innovative technology for cold pelletisation. The Company is at an exciting stage, working with leading industry partners to be at the vanguard of the decarbonisation of the metals and mining industry.”

Julian Lee, CEO of Binding Solutions said:

“Peter brings significant technical experience which will be invaluable as we grow and develop. Following our successful fundraise*, we are accelerating our plans for a demonstration plant so that we can help reduce emissions from one of the largest carbon emitting sectors.”

Notes to editors:

Binding Solutions is a fast-growing technology company that has developed a patented process for significantly reducing carbon emissions from metals production, whilst helping the producers of steel and other metals to reduce costs and cut emissions of NOx and SOx. BSL’s technology has a very large addressable market of more than 1 billion tonnes. In August, BSL successfully completed a US$17.5m Fundraise from Mineral Resources Limited to support the development of the Demonstration Plant Project.

We have commercially proven our technology at a major steel plant in the UK where it has operated since 2013. Our technology enables reductions of:

  • up to 80% in energy usage
  • up to 70% in carbon dioxide (COe) emissions
  • up to 100% in sulphur oxides (SOx)
  • up to 99% in nitrogen oxide (NOx)

Our technology has the potential to replace the need for sintering and induration processes which are very energy intensive and account for approximately 15% of carbon emissions from the global steel industry¹. Annual emissions from the steel industry are estimated as equivalent to 2.6bn metric tonnes per annum (Worldsteel), so BSL’s technology could prevent the emission of up to 390 million tonnes of carbon per annum. This is equivalent to the total annual emissions of South Africa or approximately 1% of global emissions every year.1 Wood Mackenzie
